With several IoT markets maturing over the last 24 months and others set to explode over the coming handful of years there is certainly innovation and adoption within the Internet of Things.
Everywhere you turn the industry is growing and with the clear majority of primary, secondary and tertiary revenue streams predicted to come from new business and business divisions that don’t currently exist it’s wise to have one eye on the start-up/scale-up scenes.
There are huge amounts of businesses gaining revenue injections to get them off the ground with seed funding, taking their growth to the next stage with rounds of growth funding and established businesses looking to scale and exit. Below is a snapshot of five interesting businesses in the ‘growth stage’, their funding make ups and what they are achieving.
Oden Technologies - http://oden.io
£10.2m funding raised
The Oden Factory Cloud
Our devices send data wirelessly to the cloud in real time. Every important metric from your factory is combined into one clear interface, with no complicated integrations.
Actionable Data Empowers Engineers to Solve Problems Faster
Data in manufacturing has been around for decades, but the reality is that most factories don’t use all of their critical production data to drive efficiency.
By unifying data acquisition and analytics into one streamlined platform, we supply all manufacturers with better access to data that is essential for constantly improving production.
NetThings - http://www.netthings.co.uk/
£7.68m funding raised /£555k grants received
NetThings develops a range of devices enabling users to monitor their utility consumption, along with integrating the control of multiple systems such as those used for security via the internet. Data and graphical insights on energy usage can also be viewed online.
Resin.io - https://resin.io/
£7.65m funding raised
Making hardware as easy to hack on as the cloud!
Resin.io makes it simple to deploy, update, and maintain code running on remote devices.
Our goal is to empower you to write great applications for devices - both in the virtual realm and those that cross over into the physical world - without having to worry about the friction involved in getting your hardware working and keeping your application up to date.
Doing this manually involves setting up an operating system, establishing a secure local network, configuring some means of recording and viewing logs, and providing some means of shipping new versions of code to devices in the field, amongst other equally vexing tasks.
Audio Analytic - http://www.audioanalytic.com
£6.56m funding raised

We give smart home owners sound peace of mind.Audio Analytic Ltd. is an award-winning privately held company, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Cambridge, UK.

The one thing they have in common, and the reason businesses at this stage scale with PE, VC, Grant or Private funding is... Growth!
To develop a product, service, platform or proposition all businesses need a strong skilled workforce. One human can only achieve so much, developing technology is expensive, but finding hiring and retaining that talent is part of that expensive task. This is for many people where the challenge of building a team to create their product/vision begins and is often underrated in its complexity.
